Puppy´s Bone at B10 - Shenzhen
Having spent many nights at B10 Live witnessing the heavyweights of the scene, I walked into the venue with high expectations. What I found was something refreshingly different: 小狗的骨头 (PUPPY’S BONE). A band of genuinely nice, young people who seem to carry a certain "Asian politeness" in their demeanor, yet possess a creative confidence that is hard to ignore. Their sound is a fascinating paradox—chords filled with juvenile optimism and catchy, repeated choruses that stay with you long after the amps are turned off.
The crowd reflected the band’s rising "hit" status, dominated by young women who waited eagerly after the set to secure posters. There is a palpable sense that PUPPY’S BONE is portraying the modern Asian indie genre in a way that feels both authentic and transitional. While their energy is bright, I couldn’t help but notice subtle shades of a darker influence; in certain instrumental breaks, there were flickers of a Joy Division sensibility—saving the distances, of course—that gave their "plush" sound a metallic, post-punk spine.
The highlight of the night was undoubtedly "OH! Angel." It has already been flagged by various outlets as one of the standout indie discoveries in China, and hearing it live confirmed its status as a certified hit. The room transformed during the performance, moving from a polite observation to a collective, resonant experience. It’s a song that captures the band's "natural, raw" ethos perfectly, proving why they managed to climb the Indie charts so quickly after forming in 2023.

Meeting the members—Miao, azi, Kelly, and Xiao Yang—revealed a group that is "naturally raw" and deeply thoughtful. Whether they are discussing their "fateful" meeting or their exploration of feminism and identity in tracks like "Womb of Trinity," they remain grounded. In a sea of bands trying too hard to be "rock stars," PUPPY’S BONE stands out simply by being themselves: talented, polite, and undeniably interesting.
